You Will Experience:

Prairie Prism is a free community event that will take place September 25, 2022 from 1pm-5pm, at the Confederation Mall during Culture Days. With exponential growth in immigration, and an increasing urban Indigenous population, Saskatoon’s culture is rich and dynamic as it evolves. This event will provide a ‘common stage and platform’ for intercultural sharing and interactions.

The event will highlight the diversity and rich mosaic of cultures that exist within our city. It is the organizers intent that this event will help to build cultural connections between newcomers, ‘old-comers’ and Indigenous Peoples. The organizing committee recognizes the importance of building a welcoming and receptive community where quality of life includes economic and cultural sustenance for all who choose Saskatoon as their home. Prairie Prism will draw together people of many different backgrounds and interests.

Storytellers: Where are you from? What is your life story? What is a story specific to your culture or background? This portion of the event allows participants to hear lived experiences from people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Each story session is 10 to 15 minutes and is shared in front of a small audience.

Performers: We are looking for cultural performers, either as groups or individuals for the main stage! Performances can range from dance, drumming, singing, interpretive dance and so on and are 10 minutes in length.

Interactive Displays: We are looking for people who are willing to share ethnic arts and crafts with the participants. Some examples from last Prairie Prism include: origami, kite making, weaving, beading and so on. Expenses associated with materials for the craft will be covered. These interactive displays will be set up from 1-6 pm and if you require additional volunteers to help we can arrange that.

Artisan Displays: Organizations that represent cultural groups or work with cultural minorities are invited to set up displays. This is a good opportunity to share your service or club with a broad audience. Displays will be set up from 1-6 pm.
